Wonderful cycling map of London by Publisher: W. & A. K. Johnston - Circa 1919
According to historical records, W. & A.K. Johnston was a renowned map publisher during the 19th century. The company was established in 1826 by brothers William Johnston (1802-1888) and Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871), both of whom possessed training in engraving. Their central office was in St. Andrew Square in Edinburgh's New Town, while their printing facilities were situated at the Edina Works near Easter Road. In 1843, Keith Johnston was appointed as Geographer-Royal for Scotland, and his brother William went on to become Lord Provost of Edinburgh and received knighthood.
Two very small holes in the map as shown (see photo). Cover boards and map in good condition apart from that. Very collectible cycling map of London that is not often readily available on the open market. Pricing and grading commensurate.
